“Effie…I will not be pigeon-holed.”
Sometimes I like to imagine birds having conversations.
Especially pigeons. These were far off, but body language still talks.

For whatever reason, I’m fascinated by this building downtown. It’s weird, and interesting, and not really that photogenic, and yet, I keep finding angles I love, beautiful lines, shapes worth sharing.
I feel this way deeply about people too. So often, despite our progressive perspective, we overlook the details and thus, miss out on the diverse beauty that exists both externally and internally. We’ve got our narrow definitions, not realizing life is kind of more of a thesaurus, and less of a dictionary. We’re still doing what we’ve done for millennia.
Our inability to see nuance robs us of the richness found in who we encounter day to day.
Sure we’ve got some assholes in this lovely world of ours. And we all get irritated at the people who seem to have it all and whistle about it. I’d argue we need those people to show up too, just to keep us understanding where the parameters are, flowing in and out of all the in between.
"Dear Wheeler: you provide the prose poems. I'll provide the war."
Recently watched a film I’ve needed to see for decades. Citizen Kane, which, for what it lacked in story, made up for in technical prowess and visual intrigue. Many an art student has gone bananas over this movie, and I do see why. It’s an inspiring piece of work, one that I felt compelled to make something from, hence this fun, quick full focus composite image.
So this is Jacob, and my first set of "official" photos after a looooong hiatus. We took to the streets of downtown Bellingham for a short but uber successful senior session. Jacob is a friendly, but quiet fella who likes to ride invisible flying bicycles. You'll see what I mean in the slideshow ;-) He's a gifted theater performer, an excellent student, and plays a mean Scrabble game. Downtown Bellingham, with its subdued excitement, seemed like a fitting location for this guy.
I've decided this place is basically a portrait photographer's dream. There're so many fantastic backgrounds, both natural and manmade, and it seems completely possible to find a location to suit just about anyone. And the light , oh my word, the light!!!!!
Looking forward to stretching my photography muscles and getting out there more to explore! Interested in coming along? Fill out the messaging form on my contact page and I'll be in touch!
